As humans, we can be considered a monster as well as a helpless small creature for many animals. For creatures like ants, spiders, and many more, we may be monsters. And for animals like elephants, whales, we are tiny creatures. Everything in this world is relative and is dependent on one’s perspective. Go further to know animals which prey on Anaconda snake
You might be thinking about the subject of this article – Animals that prey on Anaconda. One might think who is going to prey this massive animal. But as God has defined nature, whatever grows in the environment has a finite life span. And this is the reason why everything has its end even if it is the and most dangerous creature like an Anaconda. Let’s see animals that prey on Anaconda.
Hunting of an Anaconda depends on its size. When it is just born, it is mainly the target of fishes like Piranhas and some birds. When it grows, it is targeted by other snakes and relatively small animals. When Anaconda becomes significantly prominent, it is hunted by larger animals like Jaguars, Cayman, and by other Anacondas. Generally, animals are killed by other animals having relatively larger body sizes (usually larger body size means higher strength).
Let’s see some of the main predators of Anaconda and the way they hunt.
Jaguars
One of the animals that hunt Anaconda is Jaguar. In the cat family all around the world, Jaguar has the most potent biting force, which enables it to attack Anacondas and prey on them.
Jaguars are also well known for their swimming ability, which brings them in regular contact with aquatic snakes, including Anaconda. Both have comparable skills and strengths in different ways, and the winner is unpredictable when both are fighting. But Jaguar is one of the animals who struggle with Anaconda very often.
Anaconda uses its body to surround Jaguar to stop it’s movements and chokes the blood supply to its brain. When they are in the water, Anaconda can drown Jaguar in water and constraint its moves, which can lead to the death of Jaguar. On the other hand, since the bite force of a Jaguar is excellent, it can kill an Anaconda by biting its head.
Humans
Humans lie on the top of the Food Pyramid, which indicates that they can prey on anyone in the rest of the Food Pyramid. Anacondas generally live in dense forest areas such as Amazon.
The area around Amazon is slowly and steadily being encroached upon by humans for construction and development, which has forced Anacondas to flee from their natural habitat. We know that Anaconda has valuable leather skin, which is always in demand for making purses, boots, belts, and other objects.
This leads to their poaching in forests. Anaconda kills its prey by wrapping its body around the victim extremely tightly constricting the blood flow to its brain and killing it. Once the prey is killed, Anaconda then swallows the whole body. There are many cases from South Africa where humans were killed and consumed by an Anaconda.
Anacondas-
Anacondas can also prey on their own. It is generally seen that when mating between a male and female Anaconda occurs, female Anaconda, many times, kills the male Anaconda. Usually, female Anacondas have larger size and strength than male Anacondas.
This is also called sexual cannibalism. Also, some male Anacondas fight for the attentions of a female Anaconda and in the power game end up killing other males that are competing. In case of a shortage of food, they prey on their babies too. I hope you like reading on animals which prey on Anaconda snake.
